As idealistic as it is to travel the world and as spontaneous as our trip is, a trip like this requires a realist perspective and a degree of pragmatism. There’s an old saying that goes something like, “Once you know the why, the how will reveal itself.â€Â We’ve answered why we’re doing what we’re doing. But translating that desire into a reality meant working hard and saving up. This is not a treatise on work ethic, frugality, or planning, but here’s how we planned our trip:Â
- Work
- Plan where you want to go and for how long.
- Keep working
- Calculate how much it will cost
- Keep on working until you hit your savings goal
You may the read the above steps and say that’s too simple. We agree its simple. However simple it is though, it’s not easy. It is not easy to save on top of rent and bills. Living frugally can be real tough. And its tough to work a job you hate- and its equally tough to quit a job you like. And it is definitely not easy to throw all worldly security and stability to the wind and chase a dream around the globe. We realize that not everyone shares this dream. But if you do, it can be achieved with a little bit of planning and a lot hard work.
